Path to CFP®

1. Introduction

In 2016, the ASSOCIATE FINANCIAL PLANNER and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM qualification has been conferred with accreditation status and certified practitioners will be eligible to apply for the IBF-QUALIFIED and IBF-ADVANCED certification respectively.

AFP® and CFP® practitioners who attained their qualification before 31 Dec 2015 can apply for IBF certification by attending a CPD program which comprises of 2-hour training, immediately followed by an assessment (1 hour) based on Multiple Choice.

Existing AFP®/AWPCM practitioners who wish to attain the IBFQ certification status can attend a special CPD Training Programme, "Client On-boarding and Advisory" while existing CFP® practitioners who wish to attain the IBFA certification status can attend the special CPD Training Programme, "Business Succession Planning".

2. IBF Qualified Certification – Level 1

CPD Programme: Client on-boarding and Advisory

AFP® practitioner who successfully completes an IBF Level 1 CPD Training Programme will be eligible to apply the IBF Qualified (IBFQ) certification.

The certified practitioner is entitled to use the qualification title “IBFQ” and the following certification mark:

A practitioner with an IBFQ certification status is one that is equipped with broad-based capabilities and foundation competencies to be ready to undertake new roles.

An IBF-certified practitioner is one who epitomizes the values of professional excellence, integrity and a strong commitment to industry development.

Programme Curriculum - Client On-boarding and Advisory

This Training Programme comprises of the following elements:

1. Client Acquisition

2. Financial Plan Construction

3. Financial Plan Review

4. 1-hour assessment comprising 30 MCQ questions, immediately after the course Programme Facilitators: FPAS’ approved EP(s)

5. Upon successful completion of this program and passing the assessment, the AFP®/AWPCM practitioners will be eligible the IBFQ certification.

CPD Programme: Client on-boarding and Advisory

(50% funding under IBF-STS for *eligible candidates who successfully completes that programme)

IBF ADVANCED CERTIFICATION - LEVEL 2/ 3

CPD Programme: Business Succession Planning

CFP® practitioner who successfully completes the IBF Level 2 CPD Training Programme will be eligible to apply the IBF Advanced (IBFA) certification. The certified practitioner is entitled to use the qualification title “IBFA” and the following certification mark:

The certified practitioner is entitled to use the qualification title “IBFQ” and the following certification mark:

A practitioner with an IBFA certification status is an experienced practitioner and has acquired applied knowledge and complex analytical skills for specialists or supervisory functions.

An IBF-certified practitioner is one who epitomizes the values of professional excellence, integrity and a strong commitment to industry development.

Programme Curriculum - Business Succession Planning

This Training Programme comprises of the following elements:

1. Business Ownership and Financial Planning

2. 1-hour assessment comprising 20 MCQ questions, immediately after the course

3. Programme Facilitators: FPAS’ approved EP(s)

4. Upon successful completion of this program and passing the assessment, the CFP® practitioners will be eligible to apply for the IBFA certification.

Business Succession Planning Training Programme and Assessment Fees payable to FPAS’ Approved EP(s)

(50% funding under IBF-STS for *eligible candidates who successfully completes that programme)

About the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF)

IBF ADVANCED CERTIFICATION - LEVEL 2/ 3

The IBF Standards represents a set of competency standards developed by the industry, for the industry. It provides a practice-oriented development roadmap for financial sector practitioners to attain the necessary training to excel in their respective job roles.

Covering 13 industry segments spanning more than 50 specializations, the IBF Standards offers a comprehensive suite of accredited training and assessment programmes to guide a financial sector practitioner from licensing examinations on through to professional certification across 3-levels:

IBF Qualified

(for new entrants)

IBF Advanced

(for senior practitioners and specialists)

IBF Fellows

(for industry veterans)

IBF certified individuals will be receivingthe following:
1. IBF Certificate
2. Collar Pin
3. Certification Acronym may be used on name cards

The 2 CPD programmes are recognised under the IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBF STS) and eligible participants who successfully completes and pass the CPD programme would be able to enjoy funding subsidy of up to 70 % under the IBF Standards Training Scheme (STS)

Upon successful completion of the CPD programme, IBF will be contacting you to apply for IBF certification.

Upon successful completion of the CPD programme, FPAS will submit funding claim to IBF on your behalf. No action required on your end.

It typically take about 6-9 months for claims to process. FPAS will inform you to collect your cheque once it has been disburse.
